An ancient form of healing, Reiki is now very much part of a modern day remedy to help bring about a sense of peace and harmony to the body mind soul. In order for a person to practice Reiki, they must receive the attunements as an initiation into the work.
Reiki broken down means ‘universal life energy’. The practitioner channels this energy through their hands, and this enables the naturally occuring flow of life force to be redistributed throughout the individual where there may be an uneven flow or blockage.
In order for healing to occur, the person receiving the Reiki energy must be accepting of this energy for it to be properly distributed. The practitioner does not control where the energy is to be distributed, but simply channels the energy through and so the healing is essentially done by the receiver with the help of the Reiki practitioner, as is the case with healing in general as we know.
At The Medicine Wheel, most practitioners are Reiki practitoners, and so we do encourage you to have a session with a few different practitioners so you can find the individual who you are most comfortable to open yourself up to for the healing to occur.
During a Reiki treatment, the patient usually lies fully clothed on a padded table in a warm, comfortable room. A thorough session lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. For stress reduction one to two sessions are satisfactory, however for chronic conditions long-term treatment may be recommended.
